Faculty Member Paula Stanley Publishes First Book of Poetry

RADFORD – Paula Stanley, director of Radford University’s Center for Faculty Development and a professor of counselor education, has published Finding Endurance, a collection of poetry published by Pocahontas Press. The book is a revealing and personal perspective of closeness of family, growing up in a farming community near the beaches of North Carolina and a valued work ethic required from the smallest to the eldest members of her family.

Paula StanleyStanley, who has written stories since the age of 10, says, “These are stories I had been wanting to tell but when my mother became ill, that really motivated me to go ahead and get things down on paper. My mother developed a terminal illness just over a year ago, and I felt the importance of finishing this writing project.”

Stanley is a regular contributor to academic and professional publications and her poetry has been featured in professional journals. She co-authored the educational books Invitational Teaching, Learning, and Living and The Inviting School Treasury and is editor of the Invitational Education FORUM. She’s published articles in the Journal of Counseling and Development, Journal of Mental Health Counseling, The Family Journal and The Journal for the Association for Specialists in Group Work to name a few. Though she’s been writing academically for several years, it was not until recently that she rediscovered that creative writing “is something I really enjoy and like to do.”

The book is available at RU’s campus bookstore or can be ordered by writing Pocahontas Press, P.O. Drawer F, Blacksburg, VA  24063.
