RU Student Health Services Completes First Seasonal Flu Clinic
RADFORD -- Radford University’s Student Health Services (SHS) has completed distribution of its first shipment of seasonal flu vaccine and recommends that the RU community -- students, faculty and staff -- visit several area providers to have a seasonal flu vaccination. Another supply of flu vaccine has been ordered by the Student Health Services, according to Megan McKewan, nurse practitioner at SHS. More than 200 vaccinations were provided at the recent SHS seasonal flu clinics and a second clinic will be held upon delivery of the SHS’ second vaccine order. As reported cases of type A flu and flu-like symptoms are occurring on and around the RU campus now, all RU students, faculty and staff are encouraged to contact one of the following area sites for their seasonal flu clinic details:
McKewan said the RU student health center is also a registered provider for the H1N1 vaccine and plans to provide H1N1 clinics when the vaccine becomes available. All members of the RU community -- students, staff and faculty -- are encouraged to prevent exposure by washing their hands often and thoroughly, sanitizing surfaces, like shared computer keyboards; not sharing beverages and not touching their nose, mouth or eyes. Should one feel sick, members of the RU community should know the symptoms-cough, fever and body aches, fatigue and lack of appetite; consult their health provider and cough or sneeze into a tissue or the crook of the elbow; and limit contact with others.
