RU To Present Three October Concerts
RADFORD -- Radford University has three musical concerts scheduled for October. All concerts are 8 p.m. in Bondurant Auditorium, Preston Hall. The Wind Ensemble Concert Band performs Wednesday, Oct. 24. Under the direction of conductor Wayne Gallops, the ensemble will present compositions and transcriptions. RU professor of clarinet David Allen joins the ensemble in a performance of von Weber’s Concertino for Clarinet. Other selections include Suite of Old American Dances of Robert Russell Bennett and Donald Dzubay’s RA! The university’s Choral Ensembles presents Sing to the Mountains on Friday, Oct. 26. Folk music from Scandinavia, Italy and Austria will be featured. The concert is under the direction of choral activities director David Otis Castonguay. On Monday, Oct. 29, the University Percussion Ensemble will perform. The program features the best in traditional and contemporary percussion. Compositions by Michael Burritt, John Cage, David Mancini, George Hamilton Green and Takayoshi Yoshikawa are part of the program. Each concert is free and open to the public.
