RADFORD –The Radford University Department of Music will present A Chance of Verse and Song on Thursday, Oct. 4, 8 p.m., in the Norwood Room of the Bondurant Center, 1129 East Main St., Radford. The guest recital features baritone Theodore Sipes and pianist Tracy Cowden, faculty members at Virginia Tech.

The varied program incorporates the music of Chausson, Debussy, Hahn, Vaughan Williams, Bacon, Copland, Farwell and Ivica Ico Bukvic and the poetry of Bourget, Silvestre, Leconte de Lisle, Verlaine, Robert Louis Stevenson, Whitman and Dickinson. By linking poets and composers through song settings, the program highlights the essential role that poetry plays in the creation of art song.
