RU Students Inducted into National Honor Society for Women in Chemistry

RADFORD – Radford University chemistry students Jasmine Elmore of Richmond, Hannah Helms of Stratham, N.H. and Erin Waddell of Dublin will be initiated into Iota Sigma Pi, the National Honor Society for Women in Chemistry, on Sunday, Dec. 2 at 1:30 p.m. in Hurlburt Hall.

Helms, Waddell and Elmore will join other initiates from area colleges and universities such as James Madison and Roanoke College for the ceremony.

To be a member, students must be enrolled in an accredited college or university offering a BA or BS degree in chemistry or closely related science, be of junior status, have an overall grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale, and have completed six semester hours of chemistry with a chemistry grade point average of at least 3.0 or four semesters of chemistry with a chemistry grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

Iota Sigma Pi was founded in 1902 and was organized nationally in 1916.  The society includes more than 10,000 members from 40 local chapters in colleges, universities and metropolitan areas.

The society promotes interest in chemistry among female students, fosters member advancement in academic, business and social settings and stimulates personal accomplishment for women in the chemical fields.
