Physics Professors Win Awards

RADFORD – Radford University physics professors Rhett Herman and Jack Brockway won the Frank R. Haig Prize for best paper from four-year colleges at the conference of the Chesapeake Section of the American Association of Physics Teachers (CS-AAPT).

Herman’s presentation was titled The Exponential Atmosphere in the Classroom. He discussed the structure of the atmosphere and the equation of hydrostatic equilibrium.

Brockway’s presentation was titled Food Fights with Feynman: The Spinning Plate in Introductory Physics.  He discussed the classic Feynman problem of the wobble of a spinning plate.  His analysis is suitable for students in an introductory physics class.

Conference attendees voted for the winners of the best prize awards.
