RU Nursing Professor Kim Carter Receives
First Annual Waldron College Faculty Award

RADFORD -- RU graduate and nursing professor Kim Carter was recently named the first recipient of the Waldron College of Health and Human Services Outstanding Faculty Award.

“Kim’s accomplishments during the 2007-2008 academic years have been stellar,” said Raymond Linville, dean of Waldron College. “She is not only a highly dedicated nurse and faculty member, but among the most highly respected professionals in the region.”

Candidates for the award must be distinguished in the categories of teaching, research and service. They must serve as an inspiration to students and make an exemplary contribution to their profession.

Carter received her undergraduate degree in 1986 from RU and her master's degree and Ph.D. in nursing from the University of Virginia. She has worked at RU for more than 15 years, starting as an instructor of nursing. She is a research coordinator at Montgomery Regional Hospital and has volunteered at the Veterans Administration Medical Center. Her research has appeared in such prestigious publications as Nurse Educator, Journal of Professional Nursing and Journal of Advanced Nursing.

Carter received the Outstanding Faculty Award at a surprise presentation held during the Waldron College commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 3. Family and friends joined her on stage as she accepted the award.
