Art Professor Halide Salam Publishes Book

Halide SalamRADFORD -- Radford University art professor Halide Salam’s first book, Between 2 Spaces: Reflections on the Spiritual in Art, has been published by Pocahontas Press of Blacksburg.

The book is much like a journal, compiled of personal notes, essays and quotations. Salam writes of her painting process and objectives, sources of inspiration and memorable  passages in life. She credits her parents and religious upbringing with her success as an artist and teacher.

Salam teaches painting and has an international reputation for her paintings that explore spirituality as it relates to creativity. Many of her works are featured in the closing chapter. Salam earned her Doctor of Philosophy in Fine Arts in the studio area of painting from Texas Tech University and began her teaching career at RU 30 years ago.
