School of Nursing Hosts Distinguished Lecture Series

RADFORD-- Leslie Sokol, education coordinator and one of the principal instructors with the internationally acclaimed Beck Institute for Cognitive Therapy and Research in Philadelphia, will be the keynote speaker for Radford University’s School of Nursing Spring 2008 Distinguished Lecture Series, “Fundamentals of Cognitive Therapy,” on Thursday, April 3, from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the RU West Conference Center.

Sokol has taught cognitive therapy to national and international professional groups focusing on such topics as depression, anxiety, eating disorders, personality disorders and couples’ problems. In addition to her roles at the Beck Institute, she maintains a private practice in a primary care setting in the Philadelphia area. She is also on the teaching faculty at Suburban Mercy Hospital where she has trained family medicine residents for the past 20 years and also serves as the staff psychologist in the cardiac rehab and physical rehabilitation departments.

The School of Nursing Distinguished Lecture Series is designed to stimulate scholarly dialogue with national and international experts on topics relevant to best practice in nursing and allied health. The conference is funded by the Epsilon Psi Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau Int. and the RU School of Nursing. Participants must register by Saturday, March 29.
