PBS to Film One-Man Show by 1989 Radford University Alum

RADFORD – PBS will film Slash Coleman’s award winning one-man show, The Neon Man and Me. The show is a tribute to the life of his late best friend, Mark Jamison, a neon artist from Roanoke and 1990 Radford University alum. When Jamison died as the result of a tragic accident, Coleman decided to leave Jamison’s son with a record of their friendship. The result was a seven-act show that captures the many facets of their relationship.

To raise money for the PBS project, Coleman, a 1989 Radford University alum, created a non-profit called “The Living Room Tour” and booked himself in 60 living rooms where audience members had the opportunity to listen to Coleman as he performed select monologues from his show and talked about his life as a playwright.

John Felton, PBS vice president of programming and production for WCVE, gave the project the green light in 2006.  “The Neon Man and Me is a very appropriate program for our audiences, and we’re excited to be working with Slash on this project,” Felton said.

PBS will film the show in front of two live studio audiences on Sunday, March 30, at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. at the Community Ideas Stations Richmond studio. Seating will be limited to 150. The performances are free and open to the public. To learn more, visit www.slashcoleman.com or call 804-353-3799.
