Art of RU Professor Halide Salam Featured in Abingdon Exhibit

RADFORD – Radford University art professor Halide Salam is one of three artists featured in “Beyond Aesthetics,” an exhibition on display through May 25 at the William King Regional Arts Center, 415 Academy Drive, Abingdon.

Salam ExhibitThe exhibition is artists’ interpretation of the three major monotheistic religions, Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Salam’s Islamic faith is seen in her large-scale paintings that move toward a level of personal spirituality.

Other artists featured in the exhibition are Abingdon native Mary Jane Miller and Knoxville, Tennessee artist Arnold Schwarzbart. “Beyond Aesthetics” is funded by Johnston Memorial Hospital, the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities and The Mary D.B.T. Semans Foundation

Admission to the exhibit is free and open to the public. Hours are 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. Tuesday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, and 1 – 5 p.m. Saturday. The museum is closed on Sunday and Monday.
