Photography Contest Held in Conjunction with Women's History Month at RU

RADFORD -- Radford University’s Office of Multicultural and International Student Services will host its first Photography Contest.  It will be held in conjunction with Women’s History Month, which begins March 1, and will allow the campus and local community to display their photographic talents.

“This is the first time that we are facilitating this contest, and we are excited to have such a positive reception. We plan to make it an annual event,” says director of Multicultural and International Student Services Darrell Thorpe. “Playing off the Women’s History Month theme, pictures can tell a story from yesterday or yesteryear. With the emergence of digital cameras and camera phones, we hope to attract young people as well as seasoned photographers.”

Photographs can be submitted in two categories:

  • Category 1: Women’s History Month Theme -- “Know Your History/Know Yourself: Build the Future.”  Photographs in this category might include generational pictorials, perspectives on the future, etc.
  • Category 2: Women. Photographs in this category might include pictorials of women in society, women in the family, etc.

Photographers may enter as RU students, faculty, staff or community members and are limited to one entry per category. All entries must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Friday, February 29, 2008 for consideration.

First and second place winners will be awarded in each category and prizes of $300, $200, and $100 will be awarded to the Grand Champion, First Runner Up, and Second Runner Up selected from the winners in all categories. The winners will be announced on Monday, March 31 during the Women’s History Month program.
