RU Homecoming 2008 Tips Off In February

RADFORD -- Radford University is welcoming its alumni back to campus for a February Homecoming that will offer a Highlanders basketball doubleheader as the main event.

RU Homecoming 2008“A Whole New Ballgame” is the theme for the two-day Homecoming event that tips off Friday, Feb. 1, and concludes the following day with two basketball games. The first contest begins at 3 p.m., Feb 2 with the RU women’s team hosting UNC Asheville at the Dedmon Center. The Highlanders men take the floor at 7 p.m. for a match with Liberty.

A pep rally is scheduled for noon Saturday in the Peter’s Hall gymnasium, followed by a Homecoming social at 2 p.m. at the Dedmon Center. The Homecoming queen and king will be crowned during halftime of the men’s game.

A social will follow the game at approximately 9:30 p.m. A separate post-game event is scheduled for 9 p.m. to midnight in the Bonnie Hurlburt Student Center, where a DJ will play music and light refreshments will be served. The Homecoming king and queen will be in attendance. The movie “Dan in Real Life” will be shown in the student center theatre at 10 p.m. and again Friday night at 8 p.m.

Other campus events scheduled for Saturday include reunions for 1980s alumni, basketball alumni activities, shows at the RU Planetarium and Museum of the Earth Sciences and open houses for the College of Humanities and Behavioral Sciences, Education and Human Development and Waldron College of and Human Services.

“We’re excited to present some new activities for RU alumni that we think will become great traditions,” Vice President for University Advancement Sherri Mylott said. “While we love to host our Highlanders throughout the year whenever they can visit campus, Homecoming is a special time when they are the stars and we hope that a lot of alumni will give this new twist on our celebration a try this year.  It’s going to be a busy weekend across campus.”

Homecoming events scheduled for Friday, Feb. 1, include a step show by the National Panhellenic Council. Tickets for the NPHC show are $10. To view the complete Homecoming schedule, visit www.radford.edu/~alumni/homecoming/

Homecoming package tickets are $25 per person and include tickets to both basketball games, halftime social and most events across campus and at the Bonnie Hurlburt Student Center. The NPHC step show is a separate ticket.
