Winter Commencement Honors Graduates
and Outstanding Faculty

RADFORD – Radford University President Penelope W. Kyle conferred approximately 470 degrees during RU’s winter commencement ceremony on Saturday, December 16.

The most popular undergraduate degrees by discipline were: nursing 42, management 40, teaching 37, media studies 34, exercise, sport, and health education 27, psychology 23, interdisciplinary studies 22, marketing 20, criminal justice 19 and art 19. The most popular graduate degrees awarded included: education 10, business administration 6, corporate and professional communication 6, fine arts 6.

Eminent Professor of Anthropology Dr. Donna Boyd delivered the Commencement address (see photo top right). Dr. Boyd was recently named U.S. Professor of the Year by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and awarded the Virginia Outstanding Professor Award by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia.

Elizabeth Dore, education professor and coordinator of the middle school teacher preparation program in RU’s School of Teacher Education and Leadership, was also honored for receiving the Distinguished Educator of the Year Award by the National Middle School Association.  Dr. Dore is one of only two educators selected by the association for this national award.
