Gala Concert Features Winners of Prestigious Music Competitions

RADFORD -- Winners of the 2007 Ibla International Grand Prize and the Bartok-Kabalevsky-Prokofiev International Competition will perform Friday, April 25, at 8 p.m., in Radford University’s Bondurant Auditorium, Preston Hall.

The program features music by young artists from Croatia, Italy, Japan and Poland. The winner of the Bartok-Kabalevsky-Prokofiev competition, co-sponsored by RU and the Ibla International Foundation, is Martina Fjliak of Croatia. Her presentation at the competition was among the highest in the event’s history. Soprano Adirenn Miksch of Hungary will perform works by Bellini, Giordano, Puccini, Shostakovich and Verdi.

Japanese-American virtuoso violinist Elena Kawazu, who at the age of nine won the unanimous vote of the International Jury in last year’s competition, is also a featured artist. RU music department chair Eugene Fellin says her performance will be “the surprise of the evening.”

Admission is free. Advance tickets are available by calling the music department at (540) 831-5177 or e-mail Shannon Dillon at skdillon@radford.edu. Tickets may be picked up at the Department of Music office in Powell Hall or at the door.
