Professor Roann Barris To Participate in National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Institute

RADFORD -- Roann Barris, assistant professor of Art History at Radford University, has been accepted for a three-week summer institute sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities. The theme is Russian and Soviet Visual Cultures, 1860 - 1935. Barris was accepted based on her extensive scholarship on Russian constructivist theater. The institute is June 22 - July 12 at the New York Public Library and museums in New York City.

Roann BarrisBarris says, “We'll be exploring collections of archived Soviet visual material in museums and libraries in New York City, examining the historical contexts of these materials, exploring the best methods for using them, and sharing ideas based on our individual research and teaching projects.”

The institute features American and international scholars including historians, art historians, curators, artists, and others who work in the area of Russian and Soviet culture and currently use visual materials or plan to in the future.

Richard Bay, art department interim chair, said, “Dr. Barris' scholarship and perseverance have led to this impressive award. This NEH summer fellowship will undoubtedly enrich her personal research and bring her academic  achievements to a wider audience.”
