Cherryholmes In Concert April 26 at RU
RADFORD Grammy-nominated bluegrass artists Cherryholmes performs Saturday, April 26, at 8 p.m., in Radford University’s Bondurant Auditorium, Preston Hall. Tickets go on sale Wednesday, April 9, at the Hurlburt Hall information desk. Admission is $15 with RU I.D., $20 general admission and $15 children 12 and under. The concert is general seating and doors open at 7 p.m. Cherryholmes, formed in 1999, is a family band from Nashville. Named the International Bluegrass Association’s Entertainers of the Year, they have received numerous music industry nominations for their first commercial release “Cherryholmes.” Their second CD “Cherryholmes II,” recorded on the Skaggs Family Records label, was released in June 2007 and opened at number one on the BillBoard charts. They frequently perform at the Grand Ole Opry and are described as a band that “embodies the American bluegrass dream.” Family patriarch Jere “Pop” Cherryholmes is emcee, performs on upright bass and sings lead vocals. Sandy “Mom” Lee performs on mandolin and clawhammer banjo. Daughter Cia Leigh sings harmony and performs on banjo, son B.J. plays fiddle. Skipp, another son, is a guitarist known for his rhythm and flat-picking skills. Daughter Molly Kate is a left-handed fiddler who made her debut at the Grand Ole Opry at age seven.
