Men’s Soccer Standout Earns National Academic Honor

Radford University senior forward T.J. Rolfing has been named First Team Verizon Academic All-America by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Rolfing, who has led the Highlander men’s soccer team in scoring in each of the last four seasons, was one of 11 student-athletes to receive first team honors and was one of only three forwards on the team consisting of regional first team members from the eight CoSIDA regions. Rolfing joins Highlander soccer great Dante Washington as a Verizon Academic All-American.

T.J. Rolfing“In my estimation, T.J. is what a true student-athlete is all about,” said coach Spencer Smith. “His work ethic on and off-the field is top notch.”

Rolfing, a native of Sioux Falls, S.D., will graduate in May with a degree in marketing in which he carries a 3.63 GPA into his final year. In his four seasons as a member of the Highlander program, Rolfing has etched his name in the RU record book. He finished as the Highlanders' third all-time leading goal scorer with 45 goals. In his career Rolfing tallied 106 points and 16 assists.

He completed his career last weekend in the Big South Championship scoring four goals and adding an assist for nine points in two games to garner BSC all-tournament honors and end the season with 19 goals, five assists and 43 points.

Besides leading the Highlanders in scoring each of the last four seasons, Rolfing was named to the second team in 2002, 2001 first team and second team all-conference in 2000.
