Evans Tenth in Hammer Throw at 2005 NCAA East Regional Championships

New York, NY - The Highlanders had two participates on the opening day of the 2005 NCAA East Regional Championships. The two day meet is hosted by Manhattan College at Ichan Stadium on Randall's Island, NY.

In the women's hammer throw sophomore Tiffany Evans (Dumfries, Va.) finished tenth with a distance of 169-11 (51.79m). She was ranked 14th going into the event. Evans is scheduled to compete in the shot put as events will continue on through Saturday.

Maurika Quarles (Manassas, Va.) finished 13th in the preliminaries of the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 59.61. She will not advance to the finals on Saturday. However, she did capture Radford’s school record in the event this year with a time of 58.72.

In Saturday’s events look for Jeremiah Spence (Riner, Va.) and Brian Richotte (Berkley, Mich.) as they compete in the men's hammer throw. The starting time will be 1:00 p.m. and it will consist of trials and finals. The top nine will advance.
