Evans Qualifies for NCAA Regional Championships in the Shot Put Lexington, Va. - Radford track and field complete day two of the 2005 Big South Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships on the campus of VMI. The High’s produce several top performances. Tiffany Evans (Dumfries, Va.), already a Regional qualifier in the hammer throw, qualified for the Championships in the shot put this evening. Her distance of 49-01.00 was good enough for first place, while also breaking the school record in the event. Senior sprinter, Maurika Quarles (Manassas, Va.) qualified in the preliminaries for both the 100 meter and the 400 meter hurdles. Her times of 14.55 and 1:00.28 respectively ranked her first among other qualifiers. In the women’s 400 meter dash Dena Caple (Richmond, Va.) and Jasselle Cruz (Vineland, N.J.) will continue on to finals with times of 58.51 and 1:00.06 respectively. Highlighting the men’s side are Jarrell Warthen (Richmond, Va.), and Wayne Gore (Herndon, Va.). Warthen clocked the top time of 22.26 in the 200 meter dash and qualified for Saturday’s. Gore placed second in the prelims of the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 55.05. Antoine Woods (Woodbridge, Va.) also qualified for finals in the event with a time of 56.46. In the 200 meter dash Paul Hall (Brandywine, Md.) clocked the seventh fastest time of 22.26 and will move on to finals. In the field Radford’s Dan Oseth (Sterling, Va.) joined a three way tie for fifth in the high jump. His height of 6-03.25 tied him with Jeff Bennett of VMI and Jeffery Caldwell of Charleston Southern. In the long jump Ross Bolden (Charlottesville, Va.) finished seventh with a distance of 6.84m. In the throws events James Nixon (Prince George, Va.) , Brian Richotte (Berkley, Mich.) and Jeremiah Spence (Riner, Va.) place fifth (50-11.50), sixth (47-00.75) and eighth (45-09.75) respectively in the shot put. After day two the men and women are both in fourth place with 38 and 26 points respectively. The trials and finals of the women’s javelin throw as well as the rest of the meet will resume on Saturday April 16 at 10:30 a.m. and will continue throughout the day. |
