Radford, Va. -- Goran Nava (Castello Brianza, Italy) has been named to the 2003 Verizon Academic All-America Men's Track/Cross Country All-District III First Team, announced today. The junior middle distance runner will represent Radford University and District III on the national ballot.
He becomes the second Highlander to be represented on the national ballot this year. T.J. Rolfing, a member of the men's soccer team, was named to the Verizon Academic All-American First Team in the fall.
Nava has had a stellar season, which includes Big South outdoor titles in the 800 and 1500 and All-Conference honors in cross country and the indoor 800 and mile. During both the indoor and outdoor seasons, he has posted 17 top five finishes, including nine individual titles and four school records.
Academically, he was honored as Radford's Male Scholar Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive year. He was a 2003 All-Big South scholar athlete in both indoor and outdoor track and field, as well as being named to the 2003 VaSID Academic All-State First Team.
His season continues this Friday at George Mason, where he will be competing at the NCAA Regionals in the 800 meter for a chance to move on to the National Meet.
