Track and Field Posts Record-Breaking Day at VMI and ETSU
Hendricks and Knight Take Home Individual Titles

Radford, Va. -- Radford’s Track and Field team once again had a record-breaking day at their meets. Seven school records fell as the Highlanders participated at the VMI relays at “The Pit” and the Niswonger Foundation Invitational hosted by East Tennessee State University.

Six of those records fell at the Niswonger Foundation Invitational. On the men’s side Goran Nava (Castello Brianza, Italy) improved on his own records with third place finishes in the 800 meters and the mile with times of 1:53.36 and 4:12.50 respectively. Rochelle Black (Virginia Beach, Va.) had a solid day on the track as he was also involved in a pair of records and finished second in the high jump (6’06.00”). He broke the 400 meter record with a time of 50.01 and was the leadoff runner of the 4x400 relay team <Black, Larry Battle (Yorktown, Va.), Andre McMillan (Newark, Del.), Jay Moore (Richmond, Va.)> that set a new record with a fifth place finish (3:20.85).

Amy Gediman (Midlothian, Va.) and Natasha Tyler (Columbia, S.C) paced the women improving on their own records in the 800 and 400 meters respectively. Gediman finished second with a time of 2:18.16, while Tyler placed fifth in 57.10.

At the VMI relays, Courtney Hendricks (Radford, Va.) and Robert Knight (Tacoma, Wash.) took home individual honors in the weight throw (49’03.00”) and 200 meter dash (23.81) respectively. For the women, Tricia Coughlin (Penacook, N.H.) placed third and fifth in the high jump (5’02.00”) and 55 meter hurdles (8.89), while Tricia Benson (Salem, Va.) and Beth Hayward (Virginia Beach, Va.) finished third and fourth in the 3,000 meters with times of 11:48.40 an d11:50.05 respectively. Also, Amanda Webber (Woodbridge, Va.) improved on her own record in the pole vault with height of 8’00.00.

The Highlanders next meet will be on Feb. 8 when they return to Newport News, Va. for the Christopher Newport Team Challenge.
