Records Fall as Radford Finishes Second at Inaugural Highlander Quad

Radford, Va. – In cold and windy conditions, Radford University hosted their inaugural track and field meet this afternoon at the University’s new outdoor facility. Despite setting three school records on the men’s side, the Highlanders finished second overall with 184 combined points. Detroit Mercy took home the victory with 227.5 points and Dayton finished third with 101.5. On the men’s side, UDM edged out RU 88-87. In women’s competition, Detroit won with 139.5 points, UD was second with 101.5 and RU third with 97.

In men’s competition, the Highlanders placed first in 10 events. Highlighting the men were Adam Faulkner (Bland, Va.), Andre McMillan (Newark, Del.) and Rochelle Black (Virginia Beach, Va.). Faulkner set a new school record with a throw of 55.36 meters in the javelin. McMillan broke two school records winning the 100 and 200 meters with times of 10.96 and 22.21 respectively. Black recorded wins in the 400 hurdles (56.13) and high jump (6-06.00).

Four different women placed first for the Highlanders. In the field, Latoya Noel (Columbia, S.C.) won the high jump at 5-06.00. Maurika Quarles (Mannassas, Va.) took first in the 100 hurdles (14.75) while Meghan McLaughlin (Vienna, Va.) and Heide Harrison (McKean, Pa.) won their distance events. McLaughlin ran a 18:01.55 in the 5000, while Harrison clocked in at 11:34.13 in the 3000.

The Highlanders will be in action next weekend when they participate at the Norfolk State Invitational on April 12 and 13.
