RADFORD TO COMPETE AT THE 2004 BIG SOUTH CROSS COUNTRY CHAHMPIONSHIPS
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Radford University's men's and women's cross country will travel to Rock Hill, S.C. to compete in The 2004 Big South Cross Country Championships this weekend, Oct. 30. The meet is hosted this year by Winthrop University and will be on the Eagles' Winthrop Farm course. The women's 6K race will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the men's 8K race at 10:45 a.m. Following the competition, an awards ceremony will be held at Winthrop Coliseum at approximately Noon.
Leading the way for the Highlanders is Big South runner of the week Maria Geary. Geary has placed in the top-ten twice this season. She ran an 18:38.4 at the Virginia Tech Invitational on the 4650-meter course for sixth place and led the Highlanders to their best team finish of the season at third.
On the men's side Mike Meehan, Joel Hanlon and Sean Bossman will guide the way for the Highlanders. Meehan finished seventh with a time of 25:21.94 at the Virginia Tech Invitational where the Highlanders had their best finish of the season with second. Hanlon finished 16th and Bossman finished 19th in the event.
Overall, Coastal Carolina has won nine women's Conference Championships, followed by UNC Asheville with four, while Liberty and Radford have three each. For the men, Liberty and Radford each have claimed six team titles, followed Coastal Carolina with three and High Point and Winthrop with two.
