Men Second, Women Third at Virginia Tech Invitational

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Radford University men's and women's cross country team competed Saturday morning at the Virginia Tech Invitational. The men placed second with a total of 74 points, while the women finished third with 58 points.

On the men's side, the University of Tennessee finished on top with a total of 21 points. Concord College placed third with 81 points, followed by Lynchburg College (86), WV Wesleyan (105), and University of Charleston (165).

For the women WV Wesleyan finished first with 30 points, while the University of Charleston placed second with 56 points. Rounding out the field was Lynchburg with 75 and Concord College with 142 points

RU's Mike Meehan finished in the top-ten grabbing seventh and running a time of 25:21.94. Joel Hanlon finished the race in twenty six minutes taking 16th, while teammate Sean Bossman placed 19th running twenty six minutes and twenty seconds.

Maria Geary and Shannon Brown led the Highlanders as they both placed in the top-ten. Geary took sixth running a time of 18:38.40 just seconds behind Virginia Tech's Jessie Erickson (18:37.39). Brown finished the race in 18:47.54 to place seventh on the day.

The Highlanders will travel to Rock Hill, S.C. on Oct. 16 at 10 a.m. to participate in the Winthrop Fall Classic, the last meet before the Big South Championships.
