Women's Tennis Falls to Wofford in Season Opener Blacksburg, Va. - Radford’s women’s tennis dropped its season opener to Wofford, 6-1, at the Burrleson-Burrows Tennis Center at Virginia Tech this evening. Junior Caroline Downs (Radford, Va.) earned the lone point for the Highlanders, defeating Wofford’s Tara Hartness, 1-6, 6-4, 7-5. Wofford opened up and swept the doubles matches, 8-1, 8-2, and 8-2. The Terriers earned straight set victories at No. 1 through three singles and No. 5. At No. 6, sophomore Jessica Nixon (Leesburg, Va.) opened with a 6-4 victory in the first set, but Wofford’s Lauren Prinkett rallied to take the final two sets, 6-0, 6-0. Radford returns to the court tomorrow when it faces Appalachian State at 6 pm at the Burrleson-Burrows Tennis Center. Wofford 6, Radford 1 Singles No. 1 Sarah Shelley (W) def.
