Hilton Head, S.C. - Radford's Women's Tennis team picked up their first win of the season, defeating Southern Mississippi 4-3 at Hilton Head last week. The Highlanders finished 1-2 on their spring break trip. The win was sandwiched in between losses to Bucknell and Western Carolina.

After being swept by Bucknell on the first day, RU rebounded with their win over Southern Miss. The Highlanders dropped the #1 doubles match as Shawny Price and Jennifer Sibille def. Blair Stover and Sydney Lindsay, 8-2. Radford would go on to win the doubles point after Jihane Najdi and Laura Dickinson def. Olivia Berry and Sara Anne Harrison, 8-3, at the No. 2 spot. Radford won the No. 3 spot by default.

After the Lady Eagles took the first singles matches to grab a 3-1 lead, the Highlanders tied the score when Dickinson def. Harrison , 3-6, 7-6(4), 6-1, at the No. 4 spot and Barbara Wesson def. Jessica Olson , 6-1, 6-0, at the No. 5 spot. Radford gained the victory when they won th No. 6 spot by default.

In their third match of the trip, Jennifer Hrabovsky defeated Bethany Griffith of Western Carolina 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 to earn RU one of the Highlanders two victories. The other came by default in the No. 3 singles as they fell to WCU, 6-1.

Radford is now 1-5 on the season. They will open up their home schedule with a pair of matches this weekend, hosting Birmingham Southern and Winthrop on Saturday and Sunday.
