Radford, Va. – Radford’s tennis teams were swept by Birmingham Southern this afternoon. The women’s team fell to the Panthers 5-2, while men dropped a 4-3 decision. With the losses, the men’s team falls to 2-13, while the women drop to 1-6.

For the women, RU’s #1 Jihane Najdi (Casablanca, Morroco) and #4 Laura Dickenson (Roanoke, Va.) picked up singles victories for the Highlanders. Najdi defeated Jessica Griffin 6-3, 7-6 (10-8) and Dickenson defeated Jenny Timmis 4-6, 7-6, 11-9 in a third set tiebreaker. Birmingham Southern’s Charlotte Kelly, Daisy Humphrey, Nicole Timmis and Stephanie Ginsberg all won in straight sets.

The Highlanders return to the courts tomorrow when they host nationally ranked conference foe #54 Winthrop at 1:00 p.m.
