Brooks Garners Third-Place Finish On Day One of NEC Championships

LANDOVER, Md. - Junior Julie Brooks (Culpepper, Va.) placed third in the 200-yard individual medley Thursday evening on the first day of the Northeast Conference Swimming and Diving Championships at the Prince George's County Sports & Learning Complex. Higlanders set one school record on the day. (Day 1 Results)

Brooks swam a 2:09.19 to place third in the event. The Highlanders also placed fifth in the 400-yard medley relay and seventh in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Sophomore Kristen Deckert (Moseley, Va.) and freshman Jenny Biles (Virginia Beach, Va.) finished 14th and 15th respectively in the 500-yard freestyle. Deckert swam a 5:12.95 to break the school record of 5:16.18 and Biles posted a time of 5:18.29.

The championship continues Friday with the following events: 200-yard medley relay, 400-yard individual medley, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke, 800-yard freestyle relay. The event will conclude Saturday.
