Highs Complete Final Day of NEC Championships

Landover, Md. - The Highlanders complete day three of the NEC Swimming & Diving Championships at the Prince George's County Sports & Learning Complex. The Highs added three top-ten finishes and set a total of six school records as they finished sixth with 343 points.

Julie Brooks (Culpeper, Va./Culpeper) notched fifth in the in the 200 yard backstroke touching the wall at 2:09.77. Kelly Wallace placed sixth in the event with a time of 2:11.24. Brooks claimed two second place finishes in the 400 IM and the 200 IM on the first two days of competition.

Freshman Kyndal Spradlin (Vinton, Va./William Byrd) finished third and set a new school record in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:24.62. Spradlin posted a fifth place finish in the 100 breaststroke on day two of competition.

Kristan Deckert (Moseley, Va./Clover Hill) and Jenny Biles (Virginia Beach, Va./Salem) placed tenth and 12th in the 1650 freestyle respectively. Deckerts time of 17:51.13 set a new Highlander record. She also set a school record in the 500 yard freestyle (5:12.95) on the first day of competition.

The Highlanders set school records in the 400 and 800 yard freestyle relays. In the 400 the Highs placed sixth with a time of 3:40.82 and in the 800 they placed fifth with a time of 7:54.58.

In diving, Michelle Bowser (Lake Ridge, Va./Woodbridge) posted a 10th place finish with 112.70 points.

Gardner Webb won the NEC Championship with a total of 715 points, while Central Connecticut State placed second with 556 points. In third Wagner with 548, followed by Georgetown 468 and Georgia Southern 414. Seventh place went to St. Francis (PA) (163) followed by Howard 162, Sacred Heart 102, Flordia A&M 95, North Carolina A&T 91, Campbell 52 and St. Francis (NY) 39.
