Swimming & Diving Clinch Victories in Dual Meet

Greensboro, N.C. - The Highlander's swimming and diving squad won nine of 11 events to defeat Campbell (81-11) and N.C. A&T (74-24) Friday evening in a dual meet at Corbett Spots Center.

The Highs would start the evening with a victory in the 200 yard medley relay. The team of Kelly Wallace, Shauna Bolger, Kyndal Spradlin and Stacie Bliss pulled together to record a time of 1:56.21 in the event.

Freshman Carlye Greene nabbed first place in the 1000 yard freestyle clocking a time of 11:35.77, while Amy Sutton finished second with at time of 12:18.71. The Highs’ Bliss finished on top in the 50 yard freestyle touching the wall at 25.72. Teammate Julie Brooks was the next closet finisher recording a time of 26.29 in the event.

Wallace, Bolger and Spradlin all finished first in the 200 yard backstroke (2:15.58), 100 yard breaststroke (2:33.13) and the 500 yard freestyle (5:45.55) respectively.

Freshman Carlye Greene (Charlottesville, Va./St. Annes Belfield) nabbed first place in the 1000 yard freestyle clocking a time of 11:35.77, while Amy Sutton (Waynesboro, Va./Wilson Memorial) finished second with at time of 12:18.71. The Highs’ Bliss finished on top in the 50 yard freestyle touching the wall at 25.72. Teammate Julie Brooks (Culpeper, Va./Culpeper) was the next closet finisher recording a time of 26.29 in the event. Brooks grabbed a first place finish in the 100 yard freestyle with at time of 56.51.

Kristan Deckert (Moseley, Va./Clover Hill) and Jenny Biles (Virginia Beach, Va./Salem) notched first (2:19.43) and second (2:20.95) respectively in the 200 yard IM. Deckert also placed second in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:22.51, while Biles picked up a third place finish in the 100 yard freestyle recording a time of 59.25.

In the 200 yard butterfly Amy Whalen (Ponte Vera Beach, Fla. /Episcopal) finished first with a time of 2:15.77. Julie Bailey (Salem, Va. /Radford) finished second and Spradlin finished third in the 200 yard freestyle.

The Highs’ Jessica Breece (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) grabbed second in the 500 yard freestyle, while teammates Krista Menkedick (Vinton, Va./William Byrd) and Lindsay LeCroy (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) pick up third in the 200 yard backstroke and the 100 yard breaststroke respectively. The 200 yard freestyle relay team of Brooks, Bailey, Amy Ferry (Poquoson, Va./Poquson) and Bolger placed second with a time of 1:46.80.
