Radford Finishes Sixth In NEC Swimming Championships
Brooks Claims Two Individual Titles; Highs Set 18 School Records

LANDOVER, MD -- Radford finished sixth in its first-ever Northeast Conference Women's Swimming Championship. The three-day competition concluded Sunday. (Complete Results)

During the three days, Julie Brooks (Culpeper, Va./Culpeper) became the first Highlander to win a Conference Championship with a pair of victories. Also, the Highlanders set a total of 18 records. Brooks ended up with six records, three individually (200 fly, 200 & 400 IM) and three relays (400 free, 200 & 400 medley relay).

Kelly Wallace (Yorktown, Va./Tabb) posted the highest total with eight, four individually (100 free, 200 free, 100 back & 200 back) and four relays (200 free, 400 free, 800 free & 400 medley). She also became the first Highlander to post a sub-minute 100 backstroke with a time of 58.40. Erica Crossman (Stanton, Va./Robert E. Lee) recorded six with three individual (1650 free, 100 & 200 breaststroke) and relay records (200 free, 200 & 400 medley).

Also included in the record setting weekend were Stacie Bliss (Chesapeake, Va./Indian River) in the 50 free (25.57) and a member of the 800 freestyle and 400 medley relay teams, Kristan Deckert (Moseley, Va./Clover Hill) in the 500 and 1,000 freestyle and the 800 freestyle relay team, Amy Ferry (Poquoson, Va./Poquoson) as a member of the 200 free, 400 free and 200 medley relay teams, Joy Bailey (Fairfield, Va./Radford) of the 400 free relay team and Raven Wray (Hopewell, Va./Hopewell) a member of the 200 medley team.

RU closed out competition with 357 points. Gardner-Webb won the women's championship with 611 points. This season marked RU's first in the NEC as an associate member in swimming. The Big South Conference, Radford's home for most sports, does not sponsor swimming.

During day two, Brooks claimed the 400 yard individual medley (4:26.62). Wallace and Crossman both picked up a second place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:06.17) and 100 yard backstroke (58.86) respectively.

Radford's 400 and 200 yard medley relay teams picked up third place with a time of 3:58.71 and 1:53.47 respectively.

Brooks also took first place in the 200 yard individual medley setting a new school and meet record of 2:06.56 on day one.
