Darden Named Big South Freshman of the Week

Radford, Va. . -Radford freshman Kelli Darden (Chesapeake, Va.) earned the Big South’s women’s basketball New Balance Freshman of the Week. She joined fellow teammate Corrie Fertitta (Roanoke, Va.) as a two-time honoree.

Darden was instrumental in the Highlanders 60-44 victory over WintKelli Darden (courtesy of FOTO International)hrop on Saturday, helping RU win its eighth consecutive home game this season. It is longest home winning streak since the 1995-96 season.

She tied for a game and team-high 11 points, while tallying six rebounds and a game-high five blocks. She shot .455 from the floor (5-of-11) and had no turnovers in 30 minutes of action. The freshman also moved into a tie for fifth in a RU single season with 41 blocks, the most by a Highlander since the 1995-96 season.

The Highlanders hit the road for their next two contests. They take on High Point at the Millis Center on Wednesday at 7 pm and Birmingham-Southern at Bill Battle Coliseum on Saturday at 3 pm.
