Cold Shooting Highlanders Bow Out of BSC Tournament at High Point, 59-45 Radford, Va. -Radford shot 28 percent, including a 16:09 stretch without a field goal, and turned the ball over 21 times as the were defeated by High Point, 59-45, in the first round of the Big South Conference Tournament. The Highlanders, who fell in the first round for the fourth consecutive season, finished the season 9-18, while the Panthers improve to 17-11. Amanda Neby (Plymouth, Minn.), who was named to the BSC’s First Team for the second consecutive season, tallied a game high 22 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Highlanders in defeat. Brandy Allen (Roanoke, Va.) chipped in with 11 points. Misty Brockman was the lone Panther in double figures with 13 points, despite shooting just 2-for-13 from the field, but was clutch at the line, finishing 8-for-9. After taking a 9-4 lead at the 15:42 mark of the first half on a Neby jumper, the Highlanders did not register a field goal until Heather Perez (Louisville, Tenn.) drained a three-pointer at 19:23 of the second half. During that drought, High Point, who only shot 27.6 percent in the first half, slowly built a double-digit lead and grabbed a 27-13 advantage at the break. The Highlanders finished the half missing their last 17 shots, and turning the ball over 14 times. The Highlanders were able to cut the lead to 11 on a jumper and layup by Neby with 15:38 to go, but that was the closest Radford would get, as High Point quickly pushed the lead back to 15. The Panthers would maintain at least a 13-point advantage the rest of the way. Perez finished with six points, while Sherri Rickman (Roanoke, Va.) grabbed four rebounds. She finished her career with 570 rebounds, 10th all-time in school history. Cebronica Scott and Stephanie Scott each added nine points for the Panthers. |
