Highlanders Fall a Elon 50-43
Amanda Neby (Plymouth, Minn.) posted her fourth double double of the season with a game high 18 points and 10 rebounds. Anestha Blakeney led Elon with 16 points and eight rebounds, while Holly Andrews added 14 points. The first half that saw both teams combine to shoot 26.3 percent. Radford broke an early six-all tie with an 8-2 run to forge ahead 14-8 with 11:25 to go in the first half. Elon outscored the Highlanders 12-4, including an Andrews' 30-footer as time expired, the rest of the half, to give the Phoenix a 20-18 lead at halftime. Elon opened up the second half with a 12-4 run to give them their largest lead of the game at 32-22. The Highlander were able to cut the lead to five on two occasions, but could not get any closer the rest of the way. Jesse Brunjak (Ooltewah, Tenn.) and Sherri Rickman (Roanoke, Va.) chipped in with 10 and seven points respectively. The Highlanders finished the night 0-for-7 from three-point land, ending a streak of 91 consecutive games with a three-pointer. The last time this happened was at the Dedmon Center on Dec. 9, 1999 against Denver. RU was also outrebounded 41-36 and turned the ball over 16 times, compared to 12 for Elon. Radford will return home on Monday, Jan. 20 to host Birmingham Southern at 7 p.m. |
