Highlanders Post Road Win Over Campbell, 80-67 Buies Creek, NC. - All five starter scored in double figures and Radford University (4-3) shot a season high 56.1 percent from the field as they picked up their first road win of the season with an 80-67 victory over Campbell University (1-4) from Carter Gym. Brandy Allen (Roanoke, Va.) and Sherri Rickman (Roanoke, Va.) led the way for the Highlanders as they combined for 35 points on 15-for-17 shooting from the floor. Allen netted a season high 18 points on 8-of-10 shooting, while Rickman was a perfect 7-for-7 for a career high 17 points. Amanda Neby (Plymouth, Minn.) added 14 points and eight rebounds, while Ludmila Nicheporchuk (Minsk, Belarus) and Jesse Brunjak (Ooltewah, Tenn.) chipped in with 13 apiece. Nicheporchuk also had eight assists and seven rebounds. Campbell's Kristal Troy led all scorers with a career high 23 points and seven rebounds. After CU's Tomika Tomlinson would open the second half with a three to tie the game at 35, the Highlanders would gain control of the game again. They quickly got the lead back to five and were up by as much as eight at 14:12 before the Lady Camels made a move. Campbell would go on a 13-2 run, sparked by Tomlinson's eight points, and grab their first lead of the game, 55-52, with 9:57 left. The Highlanders responded with a 22-6 run over the next seven minutes to pull away Campbell. In the first half, Radford would take a 4-2 lead on a Rickman jumper. They would maintain a lead for most of the half and getting up to six points at 30-24 with 4:30 left. The Lady Camels would tie things up at 30 with a 6-0 spurt before the Highlanders regained the lead by the half at 35-32. Rickman and Allen each shot a perfect 4-for-4 from the field for eight and nine points respectively. After being outrebounded in their last two games, the Highlanders held a 38-24 advantage on the boards. They did turn the ball over 17 times, while forcing 16 Lady Camel turnovers. Radford will return home for a date with ACC foe Wake Forest on Saturday at 2 p.m. It will mark the return of former Radford player and head coach Charlene Curtis. |
