Highlanders Add North Alabama Transfer

Radford, Va. - Former North Alabama player Taryn Causey will enroll at Radford University this fall, announced head women's basketball coach Jeri Porter.

Causey, a 5-9 point guard from Collierville, Tenn., will be eligible to compete for the Highlanders in the 2003-2004 season. In her first two seasons with the Lady Lions, Causey started all 52 games, averaging 14.1 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.

"Taryn is an exceptional person and athlete. Her personality will be an excellent addition to the Highlanders both on and off the floor," said Porter. "Taryn has run our offense the past two years at UNA. Her familiarity will make our current players more comfortable learning a new offense, helping them make a quicker transition."

As a sophomore, she led her team in scoring (13.5 ppg) and assists (4.6 apg), and was second in rebounding (5.4 rpg). The second-team Gulf South Conference All-East Division member ranked second in the conference in assists and was tied for fifth in free throw percentage (83.3%). In her first season, Causey was recognized as the GSC's East Division Freshman-of-the-Year, averaging 14.8 points and 2.5 steals a game, ranking her eighth and third in the conference respectively.

At Collierville High School, under the guidance of Becky Kenley, Causey was a four-time all-state honorable mention pick, four-time all-district and all-region selection. As a sophomore, she was named District 15 AAA Player-of-the-Year. She averaged 21.2 and 19.5 points per game during her junior and senior campaigns respectively.

Causey must sit out the upcoming 2002-03 season as she completes her one-year residency under NCAA transfer rules. She will be able to practice with the Highlanders this season and be classified as a junior in 2003-04.
