Burch Inks Teammates Good and Clelland RADFORD, Va. -- Radford University women’s volleyball coach Michael Burch has added two players during the volleyball signing period, inking Allison Good and Melinda Clelland to a National Letter of Intent. Clelland and Good, whom both reside in Richmond Va., led Mills Godwin High School to four consecutive Colonial District championships. The 6-2 Clelland is a versatile player that should have an immediate impact on the team. Clelland was named Honorable Mention All-District, first Team All-Metro and All-Academic as a junior and earned first Team All-Region and All-Academic (District and Region) as a senior for the Eagles. “Melinda is one of the best middles in the state, however it is her versatility that will help us the most. She has the capability to play all three positions on the front row. A very smart player that is able to recognize the game situation and adjust to the match. A great all around player, that could impact the team immediately,” said Burch Good, who stands 6-1, is a powerful player that is also expected to help the team tremendously. In leading the Eagles to a District championship her senior year, Good was named second Team All-District and Richmond Times Athlete of the Week. “One of the most physical players that will join our team, Allison has improved tremendously over the past year and her growth will continue in our program. With more training and an understanding of the game, Allison could become a dominant player in our conference. As the highest leaper on the team we plan on using her ability to expand our offensive firepower,” explained Burch. Both girls belonged to the Richmond Volleyball Club under the supervision of Joe Uydess and Don Gresham. Good was named RVC Regional All-Tournament Team for her work, while her teammate Clelland was awarded 2001 AAU All-American and ODR All-Region in 2002 and 2003 for her efforts with the Richmond Volleyball Club. “Being teammates on a competitive program will give an immediate boost to our program with their work ethic and knowledge. Both players also play on the same club team helping in their advancement as teammates,” according to coach Burch. Clelland and Good will arrive at Radford University for the fall semester, and will join the team for the 2005 volleyball season. |
