Coastal Carolina Stymies Radford Volleyball RADFORD, Va.--Junior Katherine Jensen (Vancouver, British Columbia) tallied a her 20th double-double of the season with a match-highs of 14 kills and 13 digs as Coastal Carolina volleyball defeated Radford 3-0 (30-17, 30-17, 30-16) on Friday evening at the Kimbel Arena. (Box Score) Coastal (17-9, 7-5 Big South Conference) jumped out to a 20-9 lead on a kill by sophomore Laura Obert (Cincinnati, Ohio). Kills by Jensen and freshman Nakia Thompson (Lexington, S.C.) would give CCU the game one 30-17 victory. The second game was a similar story with the Lady Chanticleers taking an early lead of 9-3, on a kill by sophomore Ashley Schieble (Westerville, Ohio). Two kills by sophomore Alicia Meyers (Temecula, Calif.) on consecutive plays would increase Coastal’s lead to 15- 6. A block by freshman Jaclynn Yocum (Plain City, Ohio) and Obert would finish off the 30-17 victory. Coastal again took control early in game three at 15-2, on a service ace by Meyers. Radford’s attempt to get the score to within ten point proved difficult, as Coastal earned a 30-16 game three victory and secured the three-game win. Leading the Highlanders (3-20, 0-11 Big South) was freshman Josie Hanners (Richmond, Va.) who had team-high seven kills to go along with 14 assists and a .412 hitting percentage. Hanners and sophomore Jennifer Fritz (Virginia Beach, Va.) had nine kills each CCU will continue its homestand Saturday night against conference rival Liberty at 7 p.m. Radford heads south to visit Charleston Southern for an 11 a.m. match. |
