High Point Holds Off Highlanders

RADFORD, Va.--High Point volleyball had two players record double-digit kills to help hold off Radford rallies and lead the Panthers to a 3-0 Big South Conference win Friday night in the Dedmon Center. (Box Score)

Sophomore Lindsey Pickens (Manchaca, Texas) had 15 kills and 12 digs, and freshman Jamie Kaufman (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) had 13 kills to pace the Panthers to a 30-25, 30-27, 30-28 win. Radford falls to 3-18 overall and 0-9 in the Big South. High Point improves to 16-12 overall, 5-4 in league play.

Radford held a 20-19 edge in game one when the Panthers took control with an 8-1 run. RU closed back within three, but High Point was able to hold off the rally and earn the win.

The Highlanders played catch-up for most of game two, but used a 6-0 run to knot the score at 24. The teams traded points before HPU scored three straight to win 30-27.

A 5-0 run early in game three gave the Panthers the advantage, but RU, down by as many as eight, used its own run of seven straight to close to within one. The Panthers were able to hold off Radford to earn a 30-28 win and secure the match.

Radford senior Kate McHugh (North Branford, Conn.) led the Highlanders with a double-double, scoring 11 kills and 11 digs. McHugh hit .286 for the match. Freshman Josie Hanners (Richmond, Va.) collected 21 assists and junior Christine German (Virginia Beach, Va.) had three service aces. Junior Divona Cox (Virginia Beach, Va.) recorded seven blocks, and Radford, as a team, had nine blocks.

Junior Michelle Feiser (Hagerstown, Md.) had 43 assists for HPU while freshman Whitney Kaltenegger (Pittsburgh, Pa.) had three aces. Senior Kim Anderson had 16 digs against Radford and 20 against Liberty to run her streak of consecutive matches with at least 10 digs to 33 (which is fifth nationally)

Both teams return to Big South action tomorrow. Radford will host League-leading Winthrop Saturday afternoon at 2:00 pm at the Dedmon Center and High Point travels to Liberty for a 6:00 pm match.
