Highlanders Fall To UNC Asheville

RADFORD, Va.--UNC Asheville used short runs in each game to defeat Radford 3-0 in Big South Conference volleyball action Tuesday night at the Dedmon Center. (Box Score)

The Bulldogs hit over .300 as a team in games one and three to drop RU 30-20, 30-22, 30-26. The Highlanders remain winless in Conference play, falling to 0-8 versus Big South opponents, 3-17 overall. UNCA improves to 15-14 overall and 5-4 in League play.

An eight-point run in the first game gave the Bulldogs an edge in what was otherwise a fairly even matchup. A short five-point run broke open game two for UNCA, giving the visitor the win. Five of the first six points in game three went to UNC Asheville. The Bulldogs then slowly extended that lead to secure the match victory.

Radford placed two player in double-digit kills. Senior Kate McHugh tallied 13 kills and 14 digs and senior Tiffany Guthrie had 10 kills. Senior Bliss Mulligan registered 11 digs and freshman Josie Hanners tallied 31 kills. Sophomore Lindsey Wheeler had three blocks and junior Christine German had two aces.

Junior Talia Ogle paced UNCA with 11 kills and 10 digs, hitting at a .333 clip. Junior Rose Butler had 10 kills, five blocks and hit .500 for the match. Junior Krysti Havens had 11 digs and two service aces while junior Amanda Wiles collected 28 assists in the win.

The Highlanders return to action Friday, hosting Big South Conference opponent High Point at 7:00 pm. UNC Asheville steps out of conference play Thursday to face East Tennessee State for a 7:00 pm match.
