Highlanders Edge Charleston Southern, 4-3

Radford, Va. --Radford’s Brandon Johnson (Roanoke, Va.) rallied from an early break in the third and deciding set at No. 3 singles to give the Highlanders a 4-3 victory over Charleston Southern this afternoon from Dedmon Center Courts. Johnson defeated Guy David 6-2, 4-6, 7-5, helping RU improve to 9-6 overall and 2-3 in the Big South. The Buccaneers fall to 13-10, 1-5 in the Conference.

The Highlanders claimed the doubles point with victories at No. 2 by seniors Joakim Arahammar (Sollentuna, Sweden) and Robel Mengisteab (Kista, Sweden) and No. 3 by Johnson and senior Dominic Soeur (Herndon, Va.).

The Buccaneers made it close earning wins at No. 4, 5, and 6 singles, including a three set victory by Steve Dean at No. 5 to knot the match at 3-3. Radford received singles victories from freshman James Lloyd (Cobham, Surrey, England) and junior Arthur Vasarevic (Zagreb, Croatia).

The Highlanders return to action tomorrow when they host Liberty at 3 pm.
