Men's Tennis Upends #64 UNC Asheville, 5-2
Women Fall to #73 Bulldogs, 7-0

Radford, Va. - Radford University's men's tennis squad defeated #64 UNC Asheville, 5-2 from the Dedmon Center Courts this afternoon. The Highlander improve to 9-7 overall and 4-1 in the Big South, while the Bulldogs fall to 14-2 overall and in the 2-2 Conference. RU’s women fell to the Bulldogs, 7-0. RU falls to 3-10 overall, 1-4 in the Conference, while the Bulldog improve to 11-4, 1-3 in the Conference.

Radford took the doubles point as the No. 1 team of Brandon Johnson (Roanoke, Va.) and Dominic Soeur (Herndon, Va.) def. Adam Branks and Julien Vulliez, 8-2, while at No. 3 Joakim Arhammar (Sollentuna, Sweden) and Robel Mengisteab (Kista, Sweden) downed Josh Vandegrift and Nick Neal, 8-3.

In singles play, the Highlanders took a 3-1 lead after Andre' Cavaco (Faro, Portugal) and Mengesteab won their No. 3 and No. 5 matches respectively. At No. 6 Asheville's Neal defeated Soeur.

After Paul Ambrose defeated Johnson in three sets at No. 1, Arthur Vasarevic (Zagreb, Croatia) and Arhammar won at No. 2 and No. 4 single to seal the win.

On the women’s side, the Bulldogs swept all nine matches. UNCA won four singles in straight sets. At No. 2, RU’s Cristina Glas (Irun, Spain) took Rachel Rhoney to three sets, falling 6-7, 6-1, 8-10.

Radford’s men will hit the road on March 31 when they travel to Elon for a 2:30 p.m. match. The women will host George Mason on March 30 at 3 p.m. before going to Elon with the men.
