Men’s Tennis Downs Toledo, 5-2 Radford, Va. -- Radford downed Toledo, 5-2, in men’s tennis action from the Dedmon Center Courts this afternoon. The Highlanders snapped a four-match losing streak and evened their record at 7-7 on the year. The Rockets fall to 2-9. The Highlanders picked up the doubles points by taking two of the three matches. The No. 1 team of Brandon Johnson (Roanoke, Va.) and Joakim Arhammar (Sollentuna, Sweden) defeated Toledo’s Tony Tran and Khalid Al Nabhani, 9-8 (3), while the No. 3 team of Dominic Soeur (Herndon, W.Va.) and Robel Mengisteab (Kista, Sweden) down Mirsad Begic and Todd Wojtkowski, 8-3. Radford picked up the win after, Johnson, Arthur Vasarevic (Zagreb, Croatia) and Mengisteab earned singles’ victories in the No. 1, No. 4 and No. 6 matches respectively. Andre’ Cavaco (Faro, Portugal) also picked up at No. 3 singles. For Toledo, Al Nabhani defeated Arhammar in three sets at No. 2, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2, while Begic picked up a win (4-6, 5-3) after Soeur retired with an ankle injury in the second set. The Highlanders head back on the road next Saturday, March 22 when they face Big South foe Winthrop in Rock Hill, S.C. The match begins at 1:00 p.m. Radford 5, Toledo 2 Doubles |
