Radford Ties George Washington RADFORD, Va.--Radford men's soccer remained unbeaten Saturday night, scoring its second tie in as many games, a 1-1 affair with visiting George Washington at Patrick D. Cupp Memorial Stadium. The Highlanders, who tied Charlotte 1-1 last Saturday, are 1-0-2 on the young season. The Colonials are 1-1-1 after the double overtime match. (Box Score) GWU tallied the first goal when freshman Matt Davis played a ball from midfield into the box to set up a cross by junior Frank Ambrosio. Junior Jon Allen headed the cross into the net at 19:38 for his second goal of the season, giving the Colonials a 1-0 lead they would carry into halftime. George Washington lost a player at the 42:46 mark in the first half when junior Trevor Martin drew his second yellow card of the game, forcing him to leave the game and GWU to play a man down the remainder of the way. The Highlanders responded to the Colonials’ goal in the second half when junior Romain Maudire found junior Patrick Colas on a cross, which Colas converted into his second score of the year at the 50:09 mark. Both teams had several chances the remained of the way, but neither team could put the ball in net to secure the win. In all, Radford took 10 shots and seven corner kicks. George Washington took nine shots and had nine corner kicks. RU junior keeper Omar Zinoveev tallied four saves. His counterpart, junior Derek Biss had to make seven stops for the Colonials. The Highlanders head to UNC Asheville on Wednesday to open their Conference schedule. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 pm. George Washington will be at American on Wednesday at 3:00 pm. |
