Liberty Snaps Radford’s Undefeated Streak RADFORD, Va.--Liberty defeated Radford men’s soccer 1-0 Tuesday evening at Patrick D. Cupp Memorial Stadium to snap the Highlanders’ five-game undefeated streak (Box Score) The Flames’ goal came on a give-and-go at the 28:11 mark in the first half. After passing the ball to Darryl Roberts, Kyle Cupid broke for the goal and fired Roberts’ pass back into the net for a 1-0 advantage. Radford had a scoring chance just 40 second later when Liberty was whistled for a foul in the box, giving a penalty kick to the Highlanders. Liberty goalkeeper K.J. Sabotchick denied RU however, coming out of the goal to stop junior Patrick Colas’ shot. The Highs had other chances through the match registering 17 shot to Liberty’s nine, but Sabotchick would stop six shots on goal, including four in the second half to turn back RU. Junior Omar Zinoveev stopped three Liberty shots. RU, which fell to 6-4-4, 3-3-1 in Conference, held a 9-4 advantage in corner kicks in the match. The Flames improve to 3-3-0 in the Big South, 7-9-1 overall. It was the final Conference game of the year for RU, who is currently in third place behind Birmingham-Southern and Winthrop. Radford will head to Marshall for a Halloween game on Sunday at 2:00 pm. The Highlanders final regular season game is set for Nov. 6 at home versus Furman. Liberty will face UNC Asheville at 7:00 pm on Friday. |
