Radford Tabbed Fifth in Big South Preseason PollRADFORD, Va. - Radford men's soccer was picked to finish fifth in the Big South Conference men's soccer race according to the League's annual preseason, which was released Tuesday. The Highlanders collected 61 votes in the poll, which is voted on by the Conference's Head Coaches and Sports Information Directors. For the fourth-straight year, Coastal Carolina University was chosen as favorite, capturing 15 first place votes and 127 overall points. Last season, the Chanticleers defeated Davidson and North Carolina to advance to the NCAA Tournament semifinals, before falling in overtime to Santa Clara. Birmingham-Southern College, who finished second in the League a year ago, took second in the poll with 98 points, while Winthrop University (97) placed third. Liberty University (88), UNC Asheville (39), High Point University (36) and Virginia Military Institute (36) rounded out the tally. RU finished the 2003 season 8-9-2, losing to Birmingham-Southern in the first round of the Conference Championship. |
