Meador Wins Medalist Honors, Highlander Teams Place Third, Fourth DRAPER, Va.-- Radford sophomore Josh Meador (Glen Allen, Va.) took home medalist honors Tuesday afternoon at the Draper Valley Invitational at Draper Valley Golf Club. The Highlanders finished third in the two-day event, their highest finish of the season, shooting a 595 (303-292). The RU women's team also recorded its best finish of the year, shooting a 640 (322-318) to finish fourth in the women's event. Meador shot a 142 (72-70), then shot a four on the playoff hole over Western Carolina's Donald "Tripp" Morrow to win his first tournament as a Highlander. Senior Aaron Summers (Floyd, Va.) placed second for RU and tied for 12th overall with a 148 (76-72). Freshman Hampton Ballard (Pearisburg, Va.) shot a 151 (79-72) to finish tied for 21st overall, third for Radford. Sophomore Robert Nuon's (Centreville, Va.) 154 (76-78) placed him tied for 28th overall. Freshman Griffith Hunter (Radford, Va.) rounded out the Highlander scoring with a 162 (81-81). Western Carolina won the men's event with a 582 (297-285). Charleston Southern and High Point, the other Big South schools at the tournament, finished second (589 (305-284)) and fourth (599 (304 295)) respectively. Senior Meredith Roberts (Purcellville, Va.) was Radford's top women's finisher, placing tied for fourth with a 154 (77-77). Senior Keri Reilly (Weedsport, N.Y.) shot a 157 (81-76) to finish tied for seventh. Junior Stacy Brewer's (Fairfax, Va.) 163 (81-82) was good for 17th overall, while Junior Dana Doganes (Leesport, Pa.) 166 (83-83) rounded out the RU scoring and placed her tied for 21st. Wofford won the women's invitational, shooting a 622 (315 307). High Point finished second with a 626 (321-305) while Charleston Southern was third with a 636 (330-306). Both Radford teams will next compete at the Big South Championship at The Patriot Golf Club at Grand Harbor in Greenwood, S.C. The women's tournament will be played April 11-13, while the men's tournament is scheduled for April 18-20. |
