Samuels Adds Transfer Dixon To Radford Roster

RADFORD, Va. --Radford University Men's Basketball coach Byron Samuels announced today that Jamaal Dixon, a transfer from Loyola College in Maryland, has signed a grant-in-aid offer and will join the Highlander men's basketball team next fall.

The 6-2, 195-pound Dixon will be eligible for competition beginning in fall of 2006. The NCAA requires the transfers from a four-year institution sit out one year after transferring. Dixon attended Massasoit Community College last season.

"We welcome Jamaal into the Highlander family and expect big things from him," Samuels said. "He is a very versatile player with good quickness off the dribble. He will fit nicely into our system."

As a freshman at Loyola, Dixon played in 21 games, garnering three starts. A versatile player who can play either the point or shooting guard position, Dixon shot 38.2 percent from the field during his first year. He amassed 24 assists and 11 steals. A native of Braintree, Mass., he was a four-year starter at Thayer Academy prior to attending Loyola.

"Jamaal was highly sought after coming out of high school," Samuels added. "He has tremendous basketball bloodlines. His father was drafted by the former Washington Bullets of the NBA and his aunt Medina played on the 1992 Olympic women's basketball team."

Radford finished 12-16 last season and 7-9 in the Big South Conference. Dixon will join early signees Kenny Thomas and Stanley Pringle as Radford's new additions this offseason.
