Highlanders Cruise Past Carson-Newman In Exhibition

RADFORD, Va. - Radford men’s basketball placed three players in double figures to roll to a 81-61 exhibition victory over Carson-Newman Thursday night at the Dedmon Center.

Junior Chris Goodin scored 14 points, hitting 4-of-8 from three-point range to lead Radford. Redshirt freshman Dan Ross scored 12 points and sophomore Chris Oliver tallied 10 points and led RU with nine rebounds. Junior Whit Holcomb-Faye and sophomore Reggie McIntyre each had nine points, and Holcomb-Faye dished out six assists.

Radford used a 10-2 run early to establish a lead, capped by a trey from Goodin with 11:42 remaining in the first half. The Highlanders pushed their lead out further holding a 17-point advantage at the break following another triple by Goodin. RU slowly extended its lead throughout the second half, using an 8-2 run late to take a 70-44 lead with 8:12 left and close the books on the Eagles.

Carson-Newman placed three players in double figures, including Rodrick Gresham, who lead all scorers with 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting. Gresham also led the eagles with eight rebounds. Darren Williams scored 14 points for C-N while Andy Tipton chipped in 10.

The game was the final tune-up for Radford before next week’s season opener. The Highlanders open the regular season in Williamsburg, Va. against Yale in the first round of the William & Mary Tournament, Nov. 19 at 6:00 pm. RU was 1-1 during the exhibition season.

Carson-Newman is 0-2 in the exhibition season. The Division II Eagles will play at Tennessee Saturday in their final preseason tilt at 7:30 pm.
